Refocus

Refocus is a study in Juxtapositioning: meaning, placing contrasting elements in close relationship to each other. The hope is to create interest in the contrast. Starting with the photo on the wall; the painting is deconstructed and then, reconstructed into a new setting. The focus on the bowl of pears is sharp, but the focus on the flowers is soft. The style of the bowl of pears is called "Classic Realism;" The style of the flowers is called, "Impressionism." The bowl of pears is oil paint on canvas; the flowers are made with confetti cut fabric. The rectangular shape is repeated, or refocused several times. That is: the picture on the wall, the inset of the flower piece, and the borders around the elements. Threadpainting and free motion quilting has been used throughout.
