Santa and His Helpers

Santa and His Helpers: 18 X 20. We can brighten our holiday with this little reminder of Santa and the gang putting up the Christmas tree, after a long day working at the North Pole. The background is put together in the Bohemian Tapestry style, using many fabrics left over from other projects. For Santa and his friends, I looked at a lot of Christmas clip art and picked out a few of the most interesting images. I made patterns from my drawings and fused the fabric choices onto a stabilizer. I have used several layers of free motion stitching on this and finished with a last go round of metallic thread. Sheer sparkle material is used to represent icy patches on the rocks. Click on image to take a closer look at the sheer fabric sparkles. Jack's Place II

Jack's Place II: 18 X 32 Bohemian Tapestry. Another in my series of seasonal wall hangings. Jack has a lot of fun sitting in this field with his special friends. The straw man is a good prop for the ravens to land on and he can keep the scene interesting with his wonky hat and red shirt. He is not doing a good job keeping the crows away, but then, one raven in particular loves the conversation. The season would not be complete without the addition of the black cat. The cat seems to be staring at us with a warning to keep our distance. I used raw edge fabric cuts to create texture and free motion stitching to unify the whole piece. The Night Before Christmas

The Night Before Christmas: 16 X 20 Bohemian Tapestry. I managed to squeeze in one more project before the end of the year, as my Polish Santa sold so quickly. This is loosely based on an ad that I saw online. I liked the idea of Santa by moonlight and decided that maybe he is taking a selfie as he is getting ready for his long trip on Christmas Eve. The reindeer would be waiting for him in the moolit snow and maybe one last Cardinal would be resting in sight. Foxes are always one of my favorite woodland creatures and maybe Santa has made friends with them in his journeys. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas: 15 X 29 Bohemian Tapestry. My final fiber art endeavor for the year. I chose to place my Christmas Tree in the outdoors. Imagining that somewhere in the mountains where the air is crisp and cool, someone has decorated a small tree for the amusement of the mountain creatures and and an occasional hiker to enjoy. As Bob Ross says, "Just a happy little tree; it's your tree and you can put it anywhere you want." This can be purchased through The Polish Pottery Shoppe

Jack's Place: 18 X 30 panel. July is the time when I start thinking about my fall exhibits. It is also one of the busiest times for art shows. So, in preparation for the season I have finished another wall hanging. Simplistic design and bright October colors are sure to please. I call it Jack's Place because it reminds me of a gathering of friends. The fox and bird enjoy the company of this friendly Jack O Lantern. The backdrop of the October sky against the fall leaves suggest the end of the season. This is another of my Bohemian Tapestries, made from the scraps of many former projects, held together with free motion quilting. My washing process results in extreme texture. Thrush

Thrush: Bohemian Tapestry 18 X 30. This is another one of my raw edge tapestries with a bird theme. I wanted to make some things that would bring the sights of summer back from a very long and cold winter spell. The bird is done on a peltex stabilizer with thread painting. Summer Tanager: Bohemian Tapestry Series. 12 X 22 panel. This is another in the series of what I call my Bohemian Tapestries. The reason I call them this is because I use a lot of scrap material that would seem to have no relation to each other. But somehow, when you cut them into scrappy pieces, lay them out on a muslin foundation and then cover the surface with free motion quilting, it seems to work. I have provided a bright songbird as a focal point to tell a story of a summer day. The bird has been threadpainted onto a peltex foundation and appliqued to the tapestry.
